What Does Bathroom Plumbing Involve?

Bathroom plumbing covers all water supply, hot water, and waste plumbing required for the installation, refurbishment, or repair of a domestic bathroom โ€” from the fitting of individual fixtures to the complete plumbing of a full bathroom refit. All bathroom plumbing carried out by Kamdem HomeTech is Water Safe registered (Reg: C6345) and compliant with current Water Regulations โ€” protecting your property, your insurance, and your investment.

Our bathroom plumbing services across Greater Manchester include:

  • Full bathroom installations โ€” all hot and cold supply pipework, waste connections, and fixture plumbing for a new bathroom fit-out. We work to your specification or your bathroom designer's drawings, completing all plumbing work to Water Regulations standards
  • Shower installations โ€” including thermostatic mixer showers (requiring balanced hot and cold supply pressures), power showers (requiring sufficient cold water flow from a tank), electric showers (cold mains supply only), and digital showers. We advise on the correct shower type for your existing water system before installation
  • Bath replacement โ€” removal of existing bath and plumbing in of a new bath, including tap connections, overflow, and waste connection to the existing soil stack or waste run
  • Basin and sink replacement โ€” removal and replacement of existing bathroom basins, including tap connections, trap, and waste connections. Includes wall-hung and pedestal basins
  • Toilet installation and repair โ€” close-coupled, back-to-wall, and wall-hung WC installation; cistern repair and replacement; and soil pipe connections. For wall-hung WCs, we coordinate with any frame or furniture installation
  • Heated towel rail fitting โ€” installation of dual-fuel and central-heating-only heated towel rails, including pipework connections and commissioning. Plumbing element only โ€” we work alongside your electrician where an electric element is included
  • Isolation valve fitting โ€” fitting of serviceable isolation valves on all supply connections, enabling individual fixtures to be isolated for future maintenance without draining the system
  • Waste and overflow connections โ€” all waste plumbing to current fall and venting requirements, ensuring correct drainage without trap siphonage or odour ingress

For damaged or leaking pipework within the bathroom that is not part of a refurbishment, our pipe repair service provides targeted repair without requiring a full bathroom strip-out.

What Happens When You Delay?

Poor bathroom plumbing โ€” leaking joints behind tiles, incorrect waste falls, inadequate pipe support, or missing isolation valves โ€” causes slow but relentlessly progressive damage. Water that penetrates tile grout or silicone joints saturates the tile adhesive and substrate, causes plaster to delaminate, promotes mould growth in the wall void, and eventually rots the structural timbers framing the bathroom.

The insidious nature of bathroom water damage is that it is invisible until it is extensive. A leak behind tiles accumulates moisture for months before it becomes visible as cracked grout, soft tiles, or discoloured silicone. By that point, the cost of remediation โ€” stripping the tiles, treating the mould, replacing the substrate, retiling โ€” typically exceeds the original fitting cost.

A bathroom fitted correctly to Water Regulations standards, with appropriate materials and proper fall gradients on waste runs, lasts 15โ€“20 years with minimal maintenance. One fitted by an unqualified trader without Water Safe registration begins causing problems within 12โ€“24 months. Kamdem HomeTech holds Water Safe registration (C6345) precisely because it matters โ€” and because your bathroom investment deserves to last.

Thermostatic bar mixer shower installation in Warrington

A customer in Warrington asked me to fit a new thermostatic bar mixer shower set after a bathroom refurbishment. The previous install left just the rough-in feeds protruding from the tiles โ€” hot and cold stops at the bottom, the shower outlet at the top โ€” waiting for the new fittings.

I confirmed the centres matched the new bar mixer, pressure-tested both supplies, fitted the thermostatic mixer to manufacturer spec, mounted the riser rail and overhead drencher, and commissioned the shower at 38ยฐC with full thermostatic scald protection working correctly.

Concealed cistern siphon replacement in Warrington

A Warrington customer's wall-hung toilet had been losing flush performance for months โ€” slow refill, weak flush, occasional double-flush needed to clear the pan. From the symptoms it was almost certainly the siphon, which is the most common failure point on concealed cisterns.

The challenge with concealed cisterns is access โ€” the whole assembly sits inside the wall behind a tiled access panel. I removed the flush plate, isolated the water, drained the cistern, and lifted out the failed siphon. The diaphragm inside had perished, which was the cause of the weak flush.

I fitted a like-for-like replacement siphon, refilled the cistern, tested the flush over multiple cycles, and refitted the flush plate. Full flush performance restored.

Electric shower installation

Electric showers are the most common shower type in UK rentals and smaller bathrooms because they don't rely on the home's hot water supply โ€” they heat cold mains water on demand using a built-in element.

Done properly, an electric shower install needs three things: a dedicated supply from the consumer unit (an electric shower draws 8.5โ€“10.5 kW, more than a kettle and oven combined, so it needs its own circuit), a proper isolation point, and correct mains water pressure for the chosen model.

All electrical work signed off in compliance with current regulations.

We assess your water system before recommending a shower type โ€” ensuring you don't buy a power shower for a system without the flow rate to run it, or a thermostatic mixer for a system with incompatible pressure differentials.

Isolation Valves on Every Fitting

We fit isolation valves on all supply connections as standard โ€” ensuring every fixture can be isolated for future maintenance without needing to shut off water to the whole property.

Landlord and Multi-Property Experience

We carry out bathroom plumbing for landlords and property managers across Greater Manchester โ€” coordinating with other trades and working around tenant occupancy where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Water Safe registered plumber for bathroom work?
For work that involves connections to the mains water supply, hot water system, or drainage โ€” which all bathroom installations do โ€” you need a plumber who is familiar with and compliant with Water Regulations. Water Safe registration provides documented evidence of this compliance and is increasingly required by home insurers and conveyancers. Kamdem HomeTech is Water Safe registered (Reg: C6345).
Can you plumb in a shower where there isn't one currently?
Yes. We can install a shower in any bathroom, en-suite, or wet room โ€” including running new supply pipework from the nearest available connection point and connecting to the existing waste system. We'll assess your existing water system to recommend the correct shower type before any work begins.
Can you also tile the bathroom or is the plumbing work only?
Kamdem HomeTech provides all bathroom plumbing work. For tiling, plastering, and other trades, we work alongside your chosen contractors or can recommend local trades. We're experienced at coordinating with bathroom fitters and other trades on renovation projects.
What is the risk of using an unregistered plumber for bathroom work?
An unregistered plumber working without Water Regulations knowledge may use non-compliant materials, install fittings without correct backflow protection, or create waste connections with insufficient fall or ventilation. The results โ€” contamination risk, odour ingress, blocked drains, leaks โ€” can take months to appear but are expensive to remediate. More seriously, your home insurance may refuse claims for water damage caused by non-compliant plumbing.
Can you replace a bath with a shower tray?
Yes. Removing an existing bath and installing a shower tray and enclosure in its place is one of the most common bathroom conversions we carry out. We adapt the waste connections to suit the new shower tray position and connection point.
How long does a full bathroom plumbing installation take?
For a full bathroom refurbishment plumbing fit โ€” assuming fixtures are supplied and the room is ready for the plumber โ€” the plumbing work for a standard bathroom typically takes 1โ€“2 days. We'll confirm the expected duration when we survey your project.
Can you help with an en-suite installation where there is no existing plumbing nearby?
Yes. We can run new supply and waste pipework from existing connection points to serve a new en-suite. The feasibility and cost depend on the routing distance and the access available. Contact us for a survey and fixed-price quote.
Do you carry out bathroom plumbing for rental properties?
Yes. We work with landlords and letting agents across Greater Manchester, carrying out bathroom plumbing for rental property upgrades, refurbishments, and between-tenancy works.
