What Does Gas Appliance Installation Involve?

Gas appliance installation covers the connection, commissioning, and certification of all domestic gas-fuelled appliances to the existing gas supply. Every gas appliance installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer โ€” this is a legal requirement under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. A Gas Safe certificate of installation is issued on completion of every job, documenting the installation and confirming the appliance is safe and compliant.

Kamdem HomeTech's Gas Safe engineers carry out all gas appliance installations across Greater Manchester, with Gas Safe documentation issued on the day of the installation.

Gas appliances we install:

  • Gas cookers โ€” freestanding gas cookers and range cookers, including disconnection and removal of the existing appliance, connection of the new unit to the existing supply point, commissioning, and certification
  • Gas hobs โ€” including replacement of existing gas hobs and conversion from electric or ceramic hobs to gas. Gas hob conversions require routing a new gas supply to the hob location; we assess the kitchen's existing gas supply, determine the correct pipe route, carry out the pipework, make the connection, commission the appliance, and issue the Gas Safe certificate
  • Gas fires โ€” installation of new gas fires (open-flue, balanced flue, flueless, and inset), including all connection, flue assessment and connection, commissioning, and certification. All gas fire installations are carried out in compliance with the specific requirements for the fire type and the flue configuration
  • Gas tumble dryers โ€” connection of gas-powered tumble dryers to the existing gas supply, including commissioning and certification
  • Gas barbecue connections โ€” permanent gas supply connections for outdoor barbecues and outdoor cooking appliances, including gas pipework run to the outdoor location and a certificated connection point
  • Gas supply pipe extensions โ€” where the existing gas supply does not reach the appliance location, we run new gas supply pipework from the existing supply, including appropriate fittings, joint sealing, pressure testing, and a gas tightness test of the completed installation

For new gas fires or gas fire replacement, detailed information on annual servicing requirements is provided on our gas fire servicing page.

What Happens When You Delay?

Connecting a gas appliance yourself, or using an unregistered person to carry out the connection, is illegal under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. It also creates immediate and potentially fatal risks.

An incorrectly connected gas appliance can produce: a gas leak at the connection point (creating explosive risk and carbon monoxide danger); carbon monoxide production from an incorrectly set or poorly commissioned burner; and an unventilated gas fire situation where combustion depletes oxygen in the room. These risks are not theoretical โ€” gas incidents in UK homes resulting from unregistered installations are recorded by the HSE every year.

Beyond the safety risk, an appliance connected by an unregistered person will not have a Gas Safe certificate of installation. Without this document: the appliance's warranty is invalidated; your buildings and contents insurance may refuse claims for any related incident; and you are personally liable for any resulting harm.

The cost of a legal, Gas Safe certified installation from Kamdem HomeTech is modest. The cost of an incident caused by an illegal connection is incalculable.

Why This Matters For You

Gas Safe Certified Installation

Every installation is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer (Reg: 559988) and certified with a Gas Safe certificate of installation. This is the only legal way to connect a gas appliance in the UK.

Gas Tightness Test on Every Installation

We carry out a full gas tightness test of every installation before completion โ€” confirming the installation is gas-tight and safe before the appliance is used.

Hob Conversions from Electric to Gas

Converting from an electric or ceramic hob to a gas hob requires routing a new gas supply pipe to the hob location. We carry out the full conversion โ€” including all pipework and Gas Safe certification.

Certificate Issued Same Day

Your Gas Safe certificate of installation is issued on the day of the job โ€” ready for your appliance warranty registration and insurance records.

Protects Your Appliance Warranty

Most gas appliance manufacturers require a Gas Safe certificate of installation to validate the warranty. Without it, your warranty is void from the point of first use.

Fully Insured

Comprehensive public liability insurance on every job. All work carried out to current Gas Safe and Building Regulations standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect a gas cooker myself?
No. Connecting any gas appliance โ€” including cookers and hobs โ€” is a legal requirement to be carried out only by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Doing it yourself or using an unregistered person is illegal and dangerous. Kamdem HomeTech provides fast, affordable Gas Safe certified connections across Greater Manchester.
What is a Gas Safe certificate of installation and why do I need one?
A Gas Safe certificate of installation is a formal document issued by a Gas Safe registered engineer confirming that a gas appliance has been correctly installed, commissioned, and gas tightness tested. It is required by appliance manufacturers to validate warranties, by insurers as evidence of legal compliance, and by conveyancers on property sales. Keep it in a safe place with your appliance's manual.
Do you remove and dispose of old gas appliances before installing new ones?
Yes. We safely decommission and disconnect existing gas appliances before installing new ones, and can arrange disposal. Where an old appliance is still functional, we can arrange for it to be left in place or connected at another location if required.
Can you extend the gas supply to reach a new hob position?
Yes. For kitchen redesigns where a hob is being moved to a new location, we run new gas supply pipework from the nearest existing supply connection point to the new hob location โ€” including all pipework, jointing, and testing.
How long does a gas appliance installation take?
A like-for-like cooker replacement (same location, same connection point) typically takes 1โ€“2 hours. A gas hob conversion from electric โ€” including pipework โ€” may take half a day. A new gas fire installation, depending on flue configuration, may take a full day. We'll confirm the expected duration when we assess the job.
Do you install gas appliances in rented properties?
Yes. We carry out all gas appliance installations for landlords and their tenants across Greater Manchester. All installations include Gas Safe documentation for your landlord records.
Can you install an outdoor gas barbecue connection?
Yes. We can run a permanent gas supply to an outdoor location โ€” including through the external wall and to a certificated outdoor connection point โ€” suitable for fixed outdoor barbecues and outdoor kitchen appliances.
Do I need to inform my gas supplier before installing a new gas appliance?
For most domestic gas appliance installations, you do not need to inform your gas supplier separately โ€” the Gas Safe certificate of installation fulfils all notification requirements. For larger appliances that significantly increase gas demand, we will advise you if any supplier notification is appropriate.
